Sunday saw the Western Regional High Performance Camp kicked into high gear as the first slate of practices and games were held at Honnen Ice Arena.
Before anyone hit the ice, though, Jordan James was on hand to walk players through a meticulously crafted warm-up program tailored to meet the needs of young, growing hockey players. Following each on-ice practice, Jordan would then reconvene with each individual team to go through an equally intricate cool down program designed to help the body recover and regenerate.
In between each rendezvous with Jordan, players experienced an hour-long practice with 5-8 coaches on the ice at any given time. Following the American Development Model, there was no wasted space on the ice of Honnen Arena as players rotated through a series of stations.
The morning practices helped break the ice among an eager and anxious group of WRHP Camp players that were itching to test themselves against the best of the Northern Plains, Pacific and Rocky Mountain Districts.
The intensity ramped up even more in the afternoon as teams participated in the very first games of the weekend. The final scores from Monday are:
Black - 1, Gold - 2
Grey - 4, Columbia - 3
Royal Blue - 3, Red - 1
Kelly Green - 2, White - 1
Maroon - 5, Orange - 4

In between all of the on-ice action, this week's slate of WRHP Camp Seminars began with an in-depth look at prep school, midget, junior and college hockey. The series of six speakers included Steve Palmer of Culver Academies (top left), Tim McVaugh of Deerfield Academy (top middle), Mike Payne of Fountain Valley School (top right), Matthew Guffey of the San Jose Jr. Sharks (bottom left), Mark Kumpel of the Eastern Hockey League (bottom middle) and Joshua Brown of Arizona State University's Division I ACHA team (bottom right).
