Rule changes for WRHPC Gameplay

6/30/2015

Heading into the WRHP Camp, staff members have decided to shake up some gameplay rules in the hopes of increasing development. Here's the info you need to know for each day of games:

  • Games will consist of two, 30-minute periods
  • Running clock
  • Penalties last one minute (running clock)
  • Players may not exit the penalty box unless play is live

Most importantly of all, though, is the icing rule implemented this weekend. Here's how it works:

  • Rather than the red center line, the icing line has been moved UP to the attacking blue line
  • Players must cross their attacking blue line before "dumping" the puck, otherwise they will risk taking an icing

For example, rather than having to cross the center line before dumping the puck into the attacking zone, players must not wait until they cross their team's attacking blue line before dumping the puck in. The goal of this rule change? To force the puck carrier to "make a play" rather than taking the easy way out and dumping it in. With the primary goal of this camp being to develop these players, coaches and staff members have implemented this rule changes in the hopes of forcing the puck carrier to be more decisive and instinctive.
